Musician Travis Barker has opened up about the simple rule that he and Kourtney Kardashian have implemented at their Los Angeles home to ensure that their marriage remains as strong as possible.

The 50-year-old drummer, who wed Kardashian, 47, in 2022, opened up about the couple’s marriage in a wide-ranging interview with People magazine, in which he discussed the origins of their romance and the ways in which they maintain it.

Barker explained that the most important thing to both himself and his wife—with whom he shares a 2-year-old son, Rocky Thirteen—is that they never go to bed with unresolved issues. They will always air out any disagreements before they go to bed.

What’s more, the Blink-182 star said that no issue is too small for them to discuss if it has caused them any hurt or upset.

“We try not to ever fall asleep mad at each other,” Barker said. “[We] try to resolve, even if it’s just like, ‘Hey, I thought you were going to meet me for lunch, and you didn’t text me back right away, so I didn’t know if we were meeting for lunch.’”

He added, “Even if it’s just as simple as, like, ‘Oh, babe, I take accountability. I’m sorry. I didn’t see your text right away.’ Just resolving anything so you don’t go to bed not feeling connected is really important.”

However, Barker did emphasize the importance of taking space when needed—something they are very much able to do inside their extraordinary Calabasas mansion, which is one of two properties they own in the exclusive gated community.

The couple currently live in Barker’s Mediterranean-style home, which he purchased in 2007 for $9.5 million. It is located just a stone’s throw from Kardashian’s home.

Barker’s property spans 9,250 square feet and features seven bedrooms, as well as an array of impressive living spaces, including a home theater, game room, wine cellar and gym.

Outside, there is a tennis court, pool, and spa.

They have been using Barker’s estate as their primary residence while Kardashian’s 11,700-square-foot mansion—which she purchased for $7.45 million in 2014—undergoes renovations.

In a 2025 episode of her family’s reality show, “The Kardashians,” the Lemme brand co-founder explained that she had chosen to carry out a major overhaul of the property to make it more suitable for their blended family.

Kardashian and Barker share six children: their joint son, Rocky; Kardashian’s three kids, Reign, 11, Mason, 16, and Penelope, 14, with ex Scott Disick; and Barker’s two children, Alabama, 20, and Landon, with ex-wife Shanna Moakler. Barker also has a stepdaughter, Atiana, who is Moakler’s child from a former relationship.

Kardashian previously overhauled the property with the help of designer Martyn Laurence Bullard shortly after Disick moved out.

In an interview with Architectural Digest in 2016, Bullard noted that the design priority for Kardashian was her children, explaining that she was adamant the home remain as family-friendly as possible.

“We wanted to make it sophisticated but family-friendly,” he said. “She’s all about her kids.”

Kardashian also admitted that having children had changed the way her home looked. Before she became a mother, the color palette in her dwellings had been strictly neutral.

“I’m very afraid of color,” she joked. “But when you have kids, you can’t be so stringent. Martyn was able to introduce bright pops in a way I can handle.”

She went on to credit her mother, Kris Jenner, for helping her to understand the brilliance of interior design and how it can be used to create not just a look, but also a feeling.

It’s unclear when the latest round of work on Kardashian’s home will be completed, although she has shared a few glimpses of the project on her social media accounts in recent months.

And when the couple want to get away from the L.A. area, they need only head to their stunning Palm Springs retreat, which Kardashian snapped up for $12 million in 2021.

Located in the La Quinta neighborhood, the property spans just over 9,000 square feet and features a very modern design, complete with walls of windows that offer beautiful mountain views.

Barker and Kardashian began dating and got engaged in 2021 after years of friendship. They had three weddings—one in Las Vegas, another in Santa Barbara, and finally one in Italy.

One year after saying “I do,” the couple welcomed their first child together, Rocky.

Before they became an official couple, Barker and Kardashian spent years as good friends and “workout buddies.”

“It’s one of the main reasons we were so close. We would always work out together and run together before we were ever in a relationship. It’s amazing to be with someone that has the same love for wellness,” Barker said.
