Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ planned release date from prison has been moved up by 12 weeks—just two weeks after the disgraced music mogul sold the Miami mansion he once put up for collateral in his failed bid for bail in his sex-trafficking case.
Combs, 56, was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July 2025 and was initially sentenced to 50 months in prison. That sentence was later extended by a month after he allegedly violated multiple rules while behind bars.
In March, Page Six reported that the rapper’s release date had been pushed up from June 4, 2028, to April 25, 2028, due to his participation in a drug rehabilitation program that helps inmates reduce the amount of time they spend behind bars.
However, ABC News is now reporting that the release date has been further pushed up to Jan. 24, 2028. No reason has been given for the new anticipated release date, and a representative for Combs declined to comment to ABC News.
This update comes just two weeks after the rapper sold his Star Island mansion for $55 million.
The waterfront property became one of the most closely watched celebrity homes in the country after he pledged it as part of a $50 million bail package following his September 2024 arrest.
According to The Real Deal, the home was sold in an off-market transaction, with the buyer financing the purchase through an $18.5 million mortgage from San Diego–based Axos Bank.
The property was shoved into the spotlight in March 2024 when Department of Homeland Security agents raided the property as part of their investigation.
Combs had purchased the 10-bedroom, 12-bath mansion in 2021 for $35 million. Weeks before his arrest, he paid off the remaining $19 million on his mortgage—a move his attorneys later said was intended to free up the property as collateral for a bail package.
To secure the proposed $50 million bond, Combs offered the Star Island mansion alongside his mother’s Miami home. His legal team also proposed strict release conditions: GPS monitoring, restricting his travel to New York City and Miami, and grounding his private jet in Los Angeles while attempting to sell it.
However, in September 2024, a federal judge rejected the bail request, agreeing with prosecutors that Combs posed too great a risk to be released while awaiting trial.
“The home is unencumbered,” the filing stated. “In anticipation of this bail hearing, on Aug. 20, 2024, Mr. Combs paid off the remaining mortgage of about $18,000,000 so that the home could be used to secure a bond and be free of a mortgage.”
In October 2025, a federal judge sentenced the music mogul to four years and two months behind bars at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey, while denying renewed efforts by his legal team to secure his release pending appeal.
While his anticipated release date has been moved up significantly, Combs has not given up on the prospect of overturning his sentence altogether. In December, he filed an appeal to dismiss his convictions.
However, earlier this month, Combs got into a fight with another inmate who made a remark to him, according to a source familiar with the incident speaking to ABC News. Combs was then sent to solitary confinement, and his anticipated release date is subject to shift again depending on behavior and other factors.
