President Donald Trump‘s granddaughter, Kai Trump, is preparing to fly the nest and leave behind the comforts of her parents’ sprawling Florida homes as she moves into her first college apartment at the University of Miami—and she’s taking fans along for every step of the journey.

The 19-year-old, who is the daughter of Don Jr. and his former wife, Vanessa, skyrocketed to fame when she made a speech in support of her grandfather during the Republican National Convention in July 2024.

Since then, the incoming college freshman has made a name for herself within the Tump family and on social media, racking up more than one million YouTube subscribers by showing off the perks that come with being the president’s granddaughter.

And one of those benefits is getting to enjoy the cozy comforts of several different pads, including the White House, Mar-a-Lago, and the respective residences of her parents, who split in 2017 after 13 years of marriage.

Now, Kai gets to add another living space to that impressive list: her very first college apartment, although it’s likely that residence won’t be quite as opulent as the others within the family’s portfolio.

Still, the teenager is making every effort to ensure that her new abode is as luxurious as possible, by stocking it with an array of different items she picked up during a recent shopping spree at Target.

The golfer took to YouTube to give fans a glimpse at how she was preparing to move out on her own, taking her mom along as she stocked up on essentials for her new place—filling four carts with home goods in the process.

“I’m here with my mom right now, and we are shopping for my apartment,” Kai said as she embraced her mother in the store.

Vanessa then revealed she was “exhausted” because she had been taking care of several of Kai’s pre-move in duties for her, including driving back and forth from Miami to clean the dwelling and wait for deliveries.

“We need kitchen stuff, bathroom stuff, she has clothes—I’m not buying clothes—and we need cleaning stuff, because she will be cleaning her own apartment,” Vanessa noted.

“No, no, I’m calling her down, ‘Hey mom, my bathroom is dirty,'” Kai teased.

“She is going to learn how to do that or else it will just stay a mess,” Vanessa quipped.

The mother and daughter duo then pranced around the aisles of Target to pick up some essentials, beginning with medicine.

“Some stress gummies, definitely will be stressed,” Kai said as she threw the gummies into the cart, before moving to the toiletries section to pick up shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a hair brush, and more.

Although Kai’s new apartment is just 90 minutes away from her mom’s dwelling, Vanessa teased that her daughter will miss her, joking, “Even though you’re only an hour and a half away from my house, I know you’ll miss me. You are definitely gonna be showing up to my house, I already know you are.”

“We have to see how long it takes her to come back,” the golfer’s mom added.

After moving to another aisle, Kai admitted that her mother was struggling with the idea of her moving out.

“Yeah, she is definitely getting emotional, when she gets quiet that means she is emotional,” she said.

When talking about her new pad, Kai revealed that it comes complete with “two full baths,” before admitting that she hasn’t actually been to her apartment yet.

“I have been to her apartment many times,” her mom chimed in.

As she continued tossing items into their carts, Kai confessed that she was feeling overwhelmed, telling the camera, “This is why I haven’t bought anything even though I move in three days. I get overwhelmed when I start doing this, so I just don’t do it at all. I avoid.”

After grabbing a slew of toiletries, the mom and daughter duo shifted their focus to kitchen essentials, picking up an air fryer, mixing bowls, utensils, and more.

After a long day of shopping, Kai admitted that she was fed up with prepping and was ready to call it quits.

“I don’t like this anymore. I don’t want to be here. This is too overwhelming honesty,” she confessed.

After filling four carts, the family was ready to check out.

“So we are pretty much done shopping at Target for my apartment. So, in the next vlog I will be moving into my apartment. I’m a little overwhelmed right now, so we’re going to cut it off,” Kai said.

Kai’s move to the University of Miami marks the latest in a line of milestone changes in her life in recent years, starting with her grandfather’s reelection in 2024, which she admitted in a January 2026 interview with Logan Paul had transformed her life in more ways than one.

During her appearance on his “Impaulsive” podcast, Paul asked specifically what it’s like to date when she’s being guarded by Secret Service agents, which Kai conceded is not always the easiest thing.

While the teenager was afforded the same protection during her grandfather’s first term—as well as in the immediate aftermath—she said that things have ramped up over the past year since his inauguration in January 2025.

“It’s a little weird,” she said. “I try my best not to let it bother me. Especially the past year, since he’s become president, I’ve had to learn that, yes, they’re following me, but also to focus on pretending that they’re not there.

“Obviously, they are there. But if you can try to not really focus on that and enjoy your time with your friends, your family, or whatever it is, it makes it easier.

“Because for the first few months, it was tough. It was not easy having someone following you all the time. But once I was like: ‘Their only job is to protect me. I’m going to focus on my stuff and have them do their job.’ It made it so much easier.”

Kai also admitted that she has already decided to stay “completely” out of politics, adding that there is no “bad blood” between her and her grandfather’s Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.

“I don’t want anything to do with politics because I feel like politics is such a dangerous thing,” she said.

As for her own personal beliefs, Kai said that she prefers a more balanced approach to politics, explaining that she sees risk in either side of the aisle displaying “radical” or “extreme” views.

“If both sides met in the middle, everyone would be so much more happier, and I think there’s radical left, there’s radical right, and there’s a lot of people who get too extreme,” she went on.

“And that’s where social media really ties into it, because social media kind of makes your Instagram or your feed be one way or the other, and there’s not a lot of things on social media if you’re very much in the middle.”
