EXCL: Holly Madison Lists ‘Haunted’ L.A. Home as $9.5K-a-Month Rental

“The Girls Next Door” alum Holly Madison has listed her historic—and allegedly “haunted”—Hollywoodland home as a $9,500-a-month rental, just a few weeks after she opened up about why she feels unable to sell the iconic abode.

Madison, 46, has owned the storied property since 2012, snapping it up for just under $1.5 million four years after she ended her seven-year relationship with Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and moved out of his infamous mansion.

Interestingly, the reality star’s own L.A. abode features a similar Tudor-inspired design as the Playboy mansion, albeit on a much smaller scale. However, it features a number of very quirky additional features that help it to stand out from the crowd.

The charming dwelling sits in a “really cute community full of fairytale homes” that the star first fell in love with while filming an episode of the Playboy-centric reality show, and it was even investigated for paranormal activity on a 2021 episode of “Ghost Adventures.”

In a house tour the former Playmate shared to her personal YouTube channel in March 2026, Madison recalled the moment she first set her sights on the Beachwood Canyon neighborhood she’d one day call home as the cast was driving to Sunset Ranch to produce a horseback riding scene.

“I saw all these adorable Seven Dwarf cottage-looking homes, and I’m like, ‘What is this place?’” she said, noting that she’s been told the home looks like, “Rapunzel’s tower, or a Snow White Cottage, or a witch’s house.”

“It’s very me and I really love it,” the author said of the four-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,929-square-foot pad, which has been listed by Cody Thompson of Resident Group.

Holly has experienced a plethora of spooky scenarios in the home, and after taking a look, paranormal investigator Zak Bagans even went on the record with People magazine in 2021 to explain that he believes the “spirit” of a former owner of the home has “eerie connections” to the property.

“I also see how much she loves her house and I think the passion she has for it outweighs her fear of this ghost,” Zak said at the time. “I honestly don’t know how she can sleep in that place alone.”

Holly’s “Girls Next Door” co-star and close friend, Bridget Marquardt, also joined in on the fun, celebrating the investigation of “Holly’s haunted house” in an August 2021 Instagram post.

Although the alleged activity in the Los Angeles dwelling wasn’t enough to send Madison packing, she has recently opened up about her desire to relocate to lighten the load on her coparenting situation. Madison shares daughter, Rainbow Aurora Rotella, 13, and son Forest Leonardio Antonio Rotella, 10, with ex-husband, Pasquale Rotella.

“Over the past couple of years, I was thinking about possibly selling this house, moving closer to my ex-husband so the commute back and forth for the kids was easier,” she explained in her house tour video.

Following their split, Madison and Pasquale and moved into separate homes in both L.A. and Las Vegas. She notes that in Nevada, the homes are close in proximity, so it’s easy for the children to split time between their parents.

But in California, it’s a trek from one spot to another, so Holly spends time with her children at her ex’s home.

“When we got divorced, we talked about making rooms for the kids here and having them here sometimes, but it’s just such a long drive,” she said.

In the meantime, her own Los Angeles abode became more of a glorified closet than a true home.

A bedroom that previously functioned as her daughter’s nursery years ago had been turned into a “storage room for a lot of [Holly’s] Y2k clothes,” while another room had been dubbed the “witchcraft room” because it’s where she was keeping all of her candles.

However, listing images of the property show that it is now completely empty—with not a single Juicy Couture sweatsuit or scented candle in sight, suggesting that Madison has vacated the home completely.

Having weighed up the pros and cons of selling the property, Madison ultimately decided she isn’t yet ready to part ways with the Tudor abode, joking in her YouTube video that she doesn’t want to “give up this house because the lighting in [the] breakfast nook is so good.”

The mom of two admitted it may seem like unconventional reasoning to some—but noted that the property does have other significance in her life.

“I know that sounds stupid,” she said, explaining that the lighting is a helpful asset for her career, as she often records her podcast remotely or uses the space for video.

Great lighting aside, there are plenty of reasons a resident might love living in this house, which according to the listing, is “set above the street on a private knoll” as a “storybook escape in the heart of Los Angeles.”

The residence has no shortage of character, with original architectural details still present throughout. “Charming built-ins” and “exposed wood beams” give the interior a vintage feel, while the lush landscaping outside is equally as spellbinding.

“My favorite thing about this house is, it’s very woodsy,” Madison said in her tour. “You’re in L.A., but it feels like you’re out in the forest.” She also owns the lot behind the home, but has no plans to develop it because she appreciates feeling “like a Disney princess” surrounded by wildlife.

The home even features an area Holly lovingly refers to as her “Rapunzel tower turret,” which includes a walk-in closet filled with her favorite fashions.

Madison’s connection to the home is clear, so it makes sense that it has been listed for rent instead of for sale. She referred to it as house she could “hang onto well into retirement,” and eventually pass onto her children.
