DCFS Raises ‘Concerns’ Over Taylor Frankie Paul’s Life at Home With Kids

“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Taylor Frankie Paul is facing yet another legal hurdle after Utah‘s Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) asked a court to find that her three children are “abused, neglected, or dependent” following a visit to the family’s Utah home.

According to a legal petition filed by representatives of the agency, DCFS has also asked the juvenile court to place Paul’s children under protective supervision and appoint a guardian ad litem—someone who can represent their best interests in legal matters.

The court documents, which have been viewed by TMZ and People magazine, detail a recent visit that DCFS officials made to Paul’s $1 million Utah home, during which they say they witnessed concerning behavior from the reality star.

They allege that, at one point, Paul, 32, “stormed out” of the home after “looking up messages on social media” while they were present, leaving the officials alone in the property.

“The mother left DCFS alone in her residence, and DCFS had to lock up her home after she stormed out,” the filing states.

Paul, who shares two children (Indy, 8, and Ocean, 5) with her ex-husband, Tate Paul, and a 2-year-old son, Ever, with her former partner, Dakota Mortensen, is understood to have spoken with DCFS officials about a child and family plan that was put in place as part of her ongoing legal battle with Mortensen.

According to DCFS, it was made clear to Paul that there are “concerns with lack of progress” with this plan, only for the reality star to suggest she is being “treated unfairly because of her ‘status.’”

“When the Division confronted the mother about the lack of progress with the child and family plan and the additional concerns regarding her mental health and emotional instability, the mother appeared dysregulated,” the document reads.

Officials noted in the filing that they recommended Paul enroll in an intervention program called Families First, in which a specialist is appointed to work with a family at home to address “unwanted behaviors, empower parents, and improve family well-being.”

However, DCFS states that when this recommendation was made, Paul became upset and began crying, while her older son was at home.

“The mother stated that she is being treated unfairly because of her ‘status.’ Furthermore, when DCFS suggested the families first program intervention, the mother became escalated and dysregulated,” the document states.

“Ocean, who was in another room of the home coloring, heard his mother crying and told her, to ‘take deep breaths’ and that ‘everything was going to be okay.'”

DCFS also claims that additional concerns have been raised by Paul’s therapist over the reality star’s “lack of investment in treatment.” The therapist is understood to have told the mother of three how important it is for her to take “therapy seriously,” but noted that Paul has “expressed frustration” with the program.

The reality star is also accused of telling her therapist that she “does not have time to attend therapy because she is very busy with work.”

DCFS states that it had previously held a meeting with Paul in July, when she requested a different therapist.

Furthermore, the officials state that Paul has displayed a lack of “accountability” for a domestic violence incident that she and Mortensen were involved in—claiming that she was unwilling to address how this might be affecting her children.

“The mother was unwilling to take accountability for her role in the domestic violence incident and continued to blame Mr. Mortensen for his role in the incident,” the filing concludes.

“The mother did not see how any of the concerns are impacting her children and was focused solely on how things are impacting her.”

Paul’s attorney responded to the filing in a statement given to People, insisting that the TV personality “welcomes” the assistance of DCFS and that she is committed to becoming the “healthiest version of herself.

“It was recently decided that the ongoing custody actions would be best suited for juvenile court, a common step for families engaged in highly contentious, complex custody matters,” the statement began.

“Taylor is not deterred by this transition; she welcomes the added structure and oversight it provides and looks forward to continuing her progress toward normalizing custody and becoming the healthiest version of herself.

“Taylor remains fully committed to doing whatever is necessary to reach that goal and will not be swayed from it. Taylor appreciates the professionalism of DCFS and its representatives.”

Meanwhile, a source close to Paul alleged to People that information about the reality star’s interactions with DCFS were leaked to smear her reputation, claiming that the agency had also raised concerns about behavior on “the other side.”

“Juvenile court is private to protect the children’s privacy, and the other side leaking this information does the exact opposite. It speaks to the motivations here—someone is clearly acting in their own interest, not the children’s,” the unnamed insider claimed.

“This report also leaves out DCFS’s documented concerns about the other side, which are on record in district court and with law enforcement. The juvenile court will weigh all of that in full.”

Paul has long been engaged in a bitter custody battle with Mortensen over their son, Ever, who lives primarily with his father—while spending one midweek night per week with his mother, as well as alternate weekends.

However, it was reported at the end of June that Paul’s former spouse, Tate Paul, has also filed for sole custody of the two children they share.

The DCFS petition was filed the same week Paul was granted a stalking injunction against Mortensen’s roommate, Cru Eaton. A judge ruled that “stalking has occurred” on July 15.
