Singer-songwriter Sarah Reeves finds she can feed her creativity in multiple ways while under the same roof: by making music and home-cooked meals inside her new house in Texas.
The three-bedroom, two-bathroom, modern-style property located just outside of Fort Worth has become the perfect place for Reeves to comfortably practice both passions following a period of time marked by challenges in her recording career and a previous relationship, she reveals in the latest edition of Celebrity Sanctuary.
“It’s just been amazing here. It’s been, like, a fresh chapter, a fresh start in my life, so it’s been beautiful,” Reeves tells Realtor.com®.
The 37-year-old pop artist, who grew up in a small town in Alabama and played piano in her family’s band, first landed a record deal at the age of 18 only to lose it a few years later.
Refusing to allow that hurdle to derail her career, she pushed on and eventually secured a second one in 2016 that led her to live in Nashville, TN, for 15 years.
While experiencing all the ups and downs of the music industry and also ending a 10-year marriage, Reeves poured herself into her music. She’s released six studio albums and nearly 50 singles since 2009, including the song, “More Than Enough,” which went viral on TikTok and Instagram.
Yet, it was ultimately an acting gig that led the musician to Texas—and sparked her personal renaissance.
In 2023, Reeves temporarily relocated from Music City to the Lone Star State for a film role, but the move turned permanent after she and her costar, Bill McAdams Jr., fell in love and got engaged.
“My husband is a filmmaker [and] he was making a movie called ‘God’s Here,’” explains Reeves. “He was looking for someone to play his wife in the film and he reached out to this mutual connection and he ended up choosing me.
“I played his wife in the movie and then we fell in love on the set and got married.”
After tying the knot in 2024, the newlyweds bought and settled in to their starter home that was built that same year.
Ahead of the September release of her seventh studio album, “Standing Up,” Reeves shares in this installment of Celebrity Sanctuary how her entire abode, but especially her kitchen, helps her compose the most harmonious work and home life.
I knew I was moving to Texas away from Nashville, but I actually did not see this house before we bought it. I found another house down the street online.
My husband, we knew we were getting married and we were about to go into this next season of our lives. We needed to find a place to live and [he] and our [real estate agent] were looking at a house on our street, like, three doors down.
This one was sitting here and I didn’t see it on the website that I looked at. I was literally on FaceTime and my husband just walked over here and something in me was, like, “That is our house.” I just knew it. He walked through the whole house and I fell in love with it via FaceTime. We put an offer in and they accepted and then we bought it and I didn’t see it until after.
I did not want a project home because I am not handy at all and my husband is not handy. We really wanted something where we could call it a starter home. It could be a forever home, I’m not sure, but we just wanted to get here and start our life together in a really peaceful place. Whether this is gonna be our home for the next five years or 10 years or whatever, we don’t know, but we eventually want to have a family.
As far as aesthetic, there’s a lot of plants. I love indoor plants so the ones that are low-maintenance, I have a green thumb with indoor pants. Adding that adds so much to a room. I’m happy with everything as of right now.
We’re still trying to add stuff in, so it still very much feels kind of newish, and we’re adding our little touches here and there as we go.
I love all kinds of different things. I feel like [our home’s style is] a hodgepodge of modern meets antiques. We love to go to antique stores and thrift and find things that speak to us.
I love warm colors, so we have a lot of warmer tones, velvet green curtains. I kind of was over the all-white thing that was there for a while.
I’m really not into trends. I just like to feel cozy and warm and when people come into my home, I want to make them feel cozy and like they want to stay a while and they’re family.
We just buy pieces all over the map, things that make us smile and that feel like home. We’ll find little pieces that bring us joy or remind us of something.
We’re both Christians and so I feel like I’m turning into my mother in a way ’cause her house, you walk in, and it’s, like, all these Bible verses. I’m looking at my house now and I’m like, ‘Wow, I’m turning into my mother.’ Right above our little console table, we have this picture that I got from my grandmother. It’s a vintage the Last Supper that I framed. It’s just kind of like this very peaceful area. It’s got a light over it so we can look at that every time we have a meal.
I would say my personal sanctuary would be my kitchen because I love to cook and entertain and host. That’s where the most fun memories happen for me and my husband and anybody that we have over; it takes place in the kitchen.
I am still finding my people here in Texas, but my husband’s family lives here and we have hosted holidays. We’ve hosted Christmas and Easter and birthdays and so that’s been a lot of fun. I’m obsessed with Christmas, and so [around] Christmastime, my whole house, it’s Christmas everywhere.
I love finding all kinds of different recipes. I love to just create. It’s kind of another extension of me as an artist away from the music, but still creating. If I need to think, if I need to process something, I will literally just go and find a recipe and cook, and it’s just where I find peace. I love to just make good food for people.
I used to say my favorite meal is soup. I love soup, and then I meet [my husband] and he’s like, “My favorite meal is soup,” and I’m like, “Oh, my gosh, we will eat chicken noodle soup in the summertime,” and it’s hot in Texas. He loves, and I do, too, your classic American, like, the perfect filet, baked potato, and veggie on the side. There’s all kinds of pasta dishes that I like to make.
This season, we’ve been home more than we have been away, which is different. But whenever we do travel, the first place I want to go is into the kitchen to make something. It’s just that comfort for me. If I travel, I’ve been to so many restaurants and I eat out so much. I just love a good home-cooked meal. I’m there like every day. I make breakfast every morning and lunch. We try to have dinner at home.
We sit at the table and then we have barstools as well. If we have a bunch of people over, they’re kind of all over the place, sitting at the counter, the island, or our table seats six, even though it’s just the two of us. That was important to me. I wanted to have a lot of seating so that we could host.
If you were to walk into my kitchen, it’s a very open floor plan. We have the kitchen, dining room, and our living room all in one space, so everything is very streamlined.
All the walls are still white and I think that was a big reason why I wanted to add some color. The kitchen island has a grayish-blue tone to it and granite and our backsplash has a grayish tone to it. Gray-blue, I guess, I don’t know exactly what that color is.
The cabinets are white. I kind of want them to be the same color as our island so that might be a project for another day, but [they are] wood. The hardware is brass.
We have a brass-toned chandelier over our dining table and our dining table is this long, dark wooden table. That was the first thing that I picked out for the home and then we went to World Market and [my husband] found these chairs and they were green. That set the tone for the rest of the coloring of the house, which [is] more those green tones.
Our pantry is a mix between organized and relaxed. It is organized, but there’s moments where it has not been, but we’ll go through.
My husband is a lot more organized than I am. It’s funny, he does all the dishes, he does all the laundry, he organizes, he just wants everything clean, so our house is very clean all the time, which, I love that. It’s hard but we do not go to sleep without doing the dishes. I mean, there’s never dirty dishes in the sink. Both of us are super clean and so that’s what I do appreciate about him.
We have a record player and we like to put out some old records. It’s in the living room, but it’s all open so everything’s together. We have a soundbar so I’ll just put on jazz a lot. We have jazz, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald kind of vibes at nighttime. I like to set the mood, of course, with music.
I am happy. My word for this year is content because I, in the past, have always looked at everybody else and I’ve been, “Oh, if only we could have this, if only we could have that.” And honestly, I’m super grateful with this home. It has been a gift and my husband and I have had such a blast in it so far.
Maybe eventually, if we stay here, we could do some upgrades, but as of right now I’m super content with where it’s at.
